December: Living with Authority >
NOVEMBER: the importance of friendship
Main Points of Class
You need to choose your friends well (and not just fall into a group).
Making good friendships requires generosity and effort.
You will end up doing what your friends like to do, so having the right friends is crucial for life.
In-class activity: Attention on Others
The purpose of refinement is to give the best of ourselves to others.
We all bear little “monsters” of bad behavior within us. If we truly want to love people, we need to eliminate those “monsters”. This is the purpose of manners and etiquette.
We should strive to give our attention to the people we are with and genuinely care about them.
Technology, poorly used, often inhibits us from giving people our attention.
