Skills Development Activity: Strategies for Having a Successful Summer
By planning before the summer, students can maximize their time for relaxation and socialization while also growing in numerous ways.
Learn purposeful use of summer vacation, such as finding a good job, taking part in a service or academic project, developing athletic ability or a combination of the above.
Establish goals in each of five areas: (1) professional; (2) academic/intellectual; (3) physical; (4) spiritual; and (5) service/volunteer.
Character Talk: The Importance of Little Things
Highlight the importance of little things in professional life, family life, and among one’s friends.
Encourage students to find new, little ways of serving and caring for others at school and at home.
Out-of-class work
Discuss and complete mentor worksheet.
Read the Productive Use of Summer handout.
Finalize your tentative summer plan and review with your father.
For the next mentoring session, have in mind your family plans and their dates, which will affect your summer planning.
